Work Starts Here
Vogue Collage on “Work Starts Here” London Sign
50 x 55cm
BLUEPRINT
The most important work we do is not for ourselves. Its for the people around us.
This piece is a celebration of collective humanity.

Created from hundreds of fragments of vintage fashion magazines and mounted onto a reclaimed London road works sign, the work transforms symbols of status, individuality, and aspiration into a single image of community, support, and shared responsibility. Every torn piece loses its original identity to become part of a bigger picture, a visual metaphor for society itself.
The composition is inspired by a photograph taken during a religious festival in the Philippines, where a young boy is carried above a densely packed crowd. Surrounded by countless hands, shoulders, and bodies, he is protected not by one individual but the collective strength of many. The scene captures a universal truth: we move further, safer, and stronger when we carry one another.
The road sign itself acts as a canvas and a statement. Typically used to re-direct traffic and warn padestrians of road works, a necessary inconvenience, it is reimagined here as a reminder that progress is never achieved alone. Every achievement, every journey, and every success rests upon unseen networks of support, sacrifice, and cooperation.
By using fragments of Vogue magazines, publications often associated with individual image and personal identity, Blueprint creates an intentional contrast. The cuttings no longer represent singular people, brands, or aspirations; together they become a portrait of collective care.
At its core, Work Starts Here is about the communities that lift us up when we cannot carry ourselves. It is about protecting the vulnerable, sharing burdens, and recognising that no one succeeds in isolation. In a world increasingly defined by division and individualism, the work serves as a reminder that our greatest strength has always been each other.
